As tensions continue to escalate between India and Pakistan, authorities in Amritsar have issued a red alert and urged residents to remain indoors as a precautionary measure. The directive was issued by the Amritsar District Collector on Sunday, following a series of cross-border escalations and military confrontations.
In an official statement, the District Collector said, “We have restored power supply for your convenience, but we are still on red alert. Sirens will sound now, indicating this red alert. Please don’t move out of your house; stay indoors and away from windows. We will be informing you when we get the green signal. Please ensure compliance and please don’t panic.”
Earlier, at 4:39 a.m., residents were advised to turn off all lights and avoid exposure to open spaces such as windows, roads, balconies, and terraces. The advisory emphasized that these measures were precautionary and aimed at ensuring civilian safety.
“By way of abundant caution, please remain indoors with lights off and move away from windows. Please do not move out on road, balcony or terrace. Don’t panic. We will let you know when we can resume normal activities,” the earlier statement read.
The heightened alert in Amritsar comes amid fresh tensions along the India-Pakistan border. On Saturday, India accused Pakistan of violating an understanding reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries concerning a ceasefire and suspension of military activity.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the media in a special briefing, calling the violations a serious breach of protocol. “For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan. The armed forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response, and we take very serious note of these violations,” Misri stated.
He added that Indian forces have been instructed to maintain a strong vigil and respond firmly to any further violations along both the International Border and the Line of Control. Misri also urged Pakistan to act responsibly and take immediate steps to de-escalate the situation.
“The armed forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations,” he said.
The situation remains tense across border regions, with Indian authorities continuing to assess security risks and issue localized directives to ensure public safety.
